@PlymouthIPCT @UHP_NHS @IPS_Infection @BDandCo @JoHickey10 @DerrifordNurses How about this Cochran review which questions the validity of routine cannula removal 72-96 hours post insertion? It isn’t conclusive, but as a patient who hates a cannula, this is

@patriiickhart Not a fan. I usually refer folk to this: https://t.co/N6U4bfa64B
@HeldinEU @DrLindaDykes It's becoming more and more widely accepted now that the literature is getting out there. Generally the highest rates of infection for PVC's are in the first 48 hours and then drastically reduces after that. https://t.co/Jg0uMAeVG

Replacing a peripheral venous catheter when clinically indicated versus routine replacement | Cochrane https://t.co/KgnV2KDjPa
It's nice to see research going into the mundane rather than just groundbreaking research. Everybody wants to build, but nobody wants to do maintenance. There is no need to replace catheters, unless clinically indicated #biom4180 https://t.co/vpgst1xPSu

No benefit from routine cannula replacement on cannula-related blood stream infection, phlebitis and other problems (e.g. local infection and catheter blockage), with reduced cost and less discomfort for patients. Mostly high-grade evidence. @RDEhospitals
